Steph Raises Money And Awareness For YMCA Exeter

Linden Homes’ Steph McMinn helped raise awareness of homelessness in Exeter when she joined 57 other volunteers and spent the night sleeping on the streets as part of the YMCA’s Sleep Easy event.

Commenting on her involvement, Steph said: “I pledged to raise £250 but all in all raised a staggering £655 and I’m absolutely thrilled as it wasn’t an easy experience. The reassurance of knowing I had a warm bed to sleep in the next evening was so comforting; I can’t imagine what it must be like to sleep on the streets every night.

“I’ve recently started volunteering for the YMCA. I work for Linden Homes as its sales and marketing assistant and the company offers each employee two volunteering days a year during work times. I have been using my volunteering days to attend meetings in the week that I wouldn’t normally be able to, as well as helping at the youth clubs in my spare time. I’m pleased to be raising awareness of the charity and making a difference to homeless people in Exeter.”

YMCA volunteer coordinator, Sue Wilson said: “Steph has recently started volunteering with us and her support in our youth club projects has been brilliant. Taking part in our Sleep Easy event as well as truly going the second mile; her sponsorship has helped us raise over £30,000, which is a record for us. Well done Linden Homes for encouraging your staff into volunteering.”

In service since 1846 and one of the oldest YMCAs in the world, YMCA Exeter empowers young people in their time of need by offering services including: housing and support, employment advice and training, health and wellbeing, youth work and mentoring with ex-offenders.
