Safe As House ?" Site Manager John Wins Coveted Pride In The Job Award
25 Jun 2019

The site manager at one of Linden Homes West Yorkshire’s fast-progressing regional developments has been rewarded for his professionalism with an NHBC award.

Around 16,000 site managers competed for this year’s award, with John Firth just one of only 46 in the North East region to win a Quality Award in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2019.

He was hand picked from 449 UK winners for his excellent standards on site, representing the country’s top three per cent.

John, who oversees the Oak Park development in Tockwith, said: “Progressing so far in this industry competition means an incredible amount to me, but it’s been a team effort to maintain such high standards. Without everyone’s commitment we couldn’t achieve a really well run and highly successful sell-out development or deliver top quality homes.

“What’s particularly encouraging about this award is that it highlights the determination we have at every step of the way to deliver homes that our customers enjoy living in. It’s really good to have that publicly recognised by the industry.”

Linden Homes West Yorkshire managing director Scott Stothard added: “This is fantastic news for John, who at just 28 years old has shown a real determination, personal and professional commitment to making his site the very best he can – and this has really paid off with him beating so much competition to earn this recognition.

“Pride in the Job recognises the hugely important role site managers play in delivering high quality new homes and receiving a Quality Award is a great achievement for any site manager. John’s role is undoubtedly one of the toughest in house building and his drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition.

“He has successfully worked on other sites and has brought that same passion to Oak Park. We all wish John the very best of luck going forward to the next round.”

Now in their 39th year, the awards are the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry, dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building.

John will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards which will be announced at events across the UK later this year.

Being selected by NHBC as one of the UK’s top site managers is testament to their commitment to building homes of outstanding quality for the benefit of the people who will live in them.

Over the past 12 months judges have assessed the skills demonstrated by the site managers in their day-to-day work, covering six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
