Local Wildlife Moves Into New Homes
22 Oct 2012

Local wildlife moved into their new homes within half an hour after developers, Linden Homes installed purpose built accommodation for them at new development Rowes Meadow, in the village of Stoke Gabriel.

Local swifts, sparrows, house martins bats and owls were quick to swoop into their new homes alongside the emerging community of 43 new two to six-bedroom homes set in a wooded valley.

With 31 different designs on the site, construction has had little room for repetition and a selection of homes host individual wildlife boxes, according to species.

As retired teachers, Brian and Christine Thompson moved to their new home on the development in June from Oxfordshire, having fallen in love with the quintessential English village and wild meadow surroundings.

“As new green areas get introduced to the development we are enjoying watching the wildlife settle in. We used to help out at our local nature reserve and so have a very keen awareness of our surroundings. Our car port, a former field barn, is now host to a purpose built bat roost which is providing a stable micro-climate for local bats and creating a keen interest with the local Bat Conservation Society. We hope to get a camera in the eaves soon to see what’s going on.” says Christine.
