Local Pupil's 'Tree Tops' Design To Feature In Housebuilder's New Show Home
19 May 2017

Talented pupils from Oakfield Junior School in Fetcham swapped biros for blueprints to take part in Linden Homes’ ‘design your dream bedroom’ competition.

Ahead of launching its new development, River Walk, in Fetcham this summer, the award-winning housebuilder teamed up with Oakfield Junior School and interior design company, Claude Hooper, to run the competition.

Challenging the pupils to be as imaginative as possible with their design theme, the competition welcomed entries put together with different materials including shoe boxes, wood or simply sketched on paper.

The competition saw children of all years get creative with their contributions. The designs, based on those that would best translate into an appropriate scheme for the show home at River Walk, were then shortlisted and the three top designs selected.

Linden Homes announced the winners of the competition and presented them with their prizes during their weekly assembly.

Ten-year-old Eloise Wadham, and 11-year-old Fearne Wilkin were joint runners-up. Eloise’s ‘beach’ design was inspired by trips to the coast when walking her Labrador named Dexter. Fearne based her ‘Paddington Bear’ creation on a love for London and its sights, culture and history. Both were awarded Kindles.

But it was 10-year-old Freya Wigley’s colourful ‘tree-tops’ entry, based on her love of the outdoors, that scooped first prize: an iPad and the installation of her design in the show home.

Cheryl Martin, Art, Design and Technology Coordinator at Oakfield Junior School, commented: “The standard of artwork across the school at Oakfield is incredibly high, so we were delighted when the opportunity arose for pupils to demonstrate their talent in the Linden Homes competition.

“Freya, Eloise and Fearne are all lovely, hard-working children, and we’re all very excited to see Freya’s design brought to life at the development.”

Ginny James, Regional Sales Manager at Linden Homes South East, commented: “We’d like to extend our gratitude to Oakfield Junior School and all who took part in our first ever art competition at Fetcham. All entries were fantastic, and it was very hard making the final decision to select a winner.

“Freya’s entry stood out to us as being incredibly colourful and thoughtful; she’d clearly spent a long time planning the details, and the design will look brilliant within the rest of the show home. We look forward to showing her the final result once work is complete, later this year.”

River Walk is Linden Homes’ new collection of just 26 riverside homes in the pretty and sought-after village of Fetcham. The development is just a three-minute drive from Oakfield Junior School, surrounded by green meadows and away from passing traffic, nestled between the charming village of Cobham and historic market town of Leatherhead.

The River Walk show home will launch on Saturday 29th July, with two, three and five bedroom properties.
