Living The Good Life: New Allotments Created For Totnes Allotment Association
23 May 2018

The Totnes community will be able to grow more fruit and vegetables this year thanks to the creation of six allotment plots at Linden Homes’ Camomile Lawn development.

The new plots have been handed over to Totnes Allotment Association, which is responsible for managing the growing spaces at Castle Meadow, Kingsbridge Hill, Copland Field.

Amanda Huntley from Totnes Allotment Association said: “Being able to grow our own fruit and vegetables is great. It’s not only healthy, but it’s good exercise, lots of fun and it’s wonderful to inspire the next generation and see the children getting involved. Thank you to Linden Homes for the much-needed allotment plots.”

Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “We’re very proud to be able to support the community and as a former rural science teacher, I don’t think there’s anything better than growing your own food. Some of our new residents have an allotment now and it’s not something you typically see at a new homes development, so we’re delighted to be breaking that mould!”

Camomile Lawn is a fantastic development of 106 new homes with areas of green open space. In addition, Linden Homes has also created five new roads, a mile of sustainable drainage, six allotments and two paths that link the new homes to Steamer Quay and Parkers Close.

Brian added: “It’s been amazing to see Camomile Lawn take shape. We’re extremely proud of the homes we’ve created and how well they’ve blended in with the local area.

Wherever we build we do our best to work with the community. £615,508 section 106 contributions have been made to Devon County Council and South Hams District Council towards education, transport and an offsite playing pitch. We have also sponsored Totnes Rugby Club and Totnes and Dartington Football Club, hosted school events, and created a local travel plan to promote sustainability, which includes car share schemes, cycle paths and a voucher for £100 for residents to spend with local cycling specialist, Hot Pursuit Cycles.”

Camomile Lawn is nearing completion and there are just eight beautiful four bedroom detached homes available, located just a short walk from the town centre and River Dart.
