Continuing its support of the local community, developer Linden Homes has made a contribution to the Thorpe Willoughby Sports Association – as football fever takes hold.
The Hessle-based house builder donated £100 worth of sports vouchers to the association’s recent Thorpe United FC Football Gala Day, ahead of the start of the World Cup - it’s second donation to the sporting community so far this year.
Linden Homes North, which is currently enjoying success in the village with its 149-home development Willeby Heights, was among the local companies to support the popular family day out.
Several thousand pounds is expected to have been raised from the event, which has been hailed a huge success by under 6 coach and gala day co-ordinator Mike Rodger.
Mike said: “Our huge thanks to Linden Homes for their support of the event and our football club. All proceeds raised from the gala day will be ploughed back into the club and our facilities.”
And as a special thank you to under 10s team member Sam Oldfield – one of the vouchers has been presented to him for single handedly raising £70 from the sale of helium balloons which were released in a fund-raising race on the day.
Earlier this year, at the launch of the development, Linden Homes stumped up cash for the North Yorkshire village’s cricket club.
A presentation of £250 – which will help to pay for new cricket nets and astro turf – was made to one of the club’s founders and current chairman Dennis Powell, by Linden Homes sales manager Julie Hubbard.
Julie said: “As a company building in a number of village locations, we are always looking for worthy and valued community causes we can support.
“The combined cricket, football and village social club facilities mean that they can continue to be enjoyed by existing members and hopefully our own residents in the future.”
