Linden Homes’ philosophy of sustainable housebuilding is on show with a string of green measures at its new developments throughout the South West region.
As well as focusing on brownfield sites such as at Boslowen in Camborne, Home @ Heartlands in Redruth, and Emerge in Devonport, the company uses timber from sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, builds with recycled aggregates, and re-uses soil on site to reduce the lorry miles transporting material.
The flora and fauna get looked after too: at Boslowen and Emerge Linden Homes has installed special boxes to give bats and swifts a place to live, while at Kings Gate in Kingsteignton, these will be joined by a wildlife area and pond.
The construction teams are encouraged to join the sustainability drive, with bicycle racks installed to make it easier to cycle to work, plus energy saving measures in site cabins and water saving facilities in the on-site toilets.
Nigel Palmer, managing director at Linden Homes South West, said: “There’s no instant answer to sustainable housebuilding – it’s about bringing that attitude to everything you do to create a cumulative positive impact. That’s what we’re doing and will continue to do.”
Linden Homes won a silver sustainable developer of the year award in the national What House 2015 Awards and was also highly commended for Home @ Heartlands in Redruth for best low or zero carbon initiative in the national Housebuilder Awards 2015.
Linden Homes is currently creating homes in Exeter, Kingsteignton, Okehampton, Goodrington, Paignton, Totnes, Plymouth, Duporth, Truro, Penryn, Camborne and Redruth.
