Grant Shapps MP Welcomes New Homes And New Jobs At Wilshere Park
10 Nov 2014

Grant Shapps, MP for Welwyn Hatfield and Conservative Party Chairman, has welcomed the delivery of new homes at Linden Homes’ latest scheme in Welwyn.

Wilshere Park is a new community that, once launched, will offer 150 new homes consisting of 136 houses and 14 refurbished properties.

Donned with protective equipment, Mr Shapps was taken on a guided tour by Linden Homes Divisional Managing Director Tom Nicholson, Land Director Nick Laugharne and Marketing and Communications Manager Naomi Burrell.

Mr Shapps spent his time on site seeing the progress of the build and work underway. Project Manager, John Howard and Deputy Site Manager Joel Baker were on hand to explain the construction programme on the site. Mr Shapps also spoke with one of Linden Homes’ local apprentices working on the development, Lloyd Matthews who outlined the opportunities he had gained working on site.

Linden Homes is committed to training hundreds of people under its Linden Homes National Apprentice Programme.

Following the visit, Mr Shapps said: “It was a pleasure to visit the site and meet the apprentices that Linden Homes and its contractors have taken on between them. It proves that the building of homes creates jobs for local businesses and also gives young people the skills and experience they need to be successful.

“I was impressed by the quality of the housing being built and the efforts taken to ensure that the development retains the character of this local landmark.”

Tom Nicholson said: “At this site alone, we have created 204 jobs and 15 apprenticeships; demonstrating that when we build, we look to build local homes by local people.

“Apprenticeships are very important to Linden Homes so we were particularly delighted that Mr Shapps had an opportunity to meet an apprentice on site and see the undoubted benefits training brings.

“At Linden Homes, we are always keen to invest back into the communities we build and for this site we have contributed £1.75 million to the local economy. We have recently shown an investment in Welwyn by resurfacing Whitehill car park to help improve amenities for the local community.”

The collection of one and two-bedroom apartments and three, four and five- bedroom homes at Wilshere Park will be launched early next year.
