Devon Site Manager Turns Marathon Runner In Tribute To His Father
08 Oct 2021

Marcus Ford, 42, is responsible for building Linden Homes’ Tithe Barn development in Exeter and completed the 26.2 mile run in four hours and fifty minutes. To date, he has raised awareness and over £1,500 for the Stroke Association.

The organisation helps people to rebuild their lives after stroke by providing specialist support, it funds critical research and campaigns to make sure those affected by stroke get the very best care to rebuild their lives.

There are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK alone and 100,000 people will have strokes a year.

Speaking about the marathon, which took place on Sunday 3rd October, Marcus said: “I still can’t believe I’ve completed my first marathon and raised so much money for the Stroke Association. I’ve always wanted to do something in memory of my dad who passed away when he was only 58 years old and I know he would be so proud of me.”

Marcus added: “I had a ballot place and was due to run in 2020, but it was cancelled at the eleventh hour, as a result of the pandemic. I was devastated as I’d done all the training but it was definitely worth the wait. The atmosphere was amazing and crossing the finish line was just euphoric!

“I’m still on a high and have already put my name down for the next one! For anyone considering entering, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s a must, the London marathon is a totally amazing experience.”

Marcus burnt 4,000 calories during the race and enjoyed a curry with his girlfriend to celebrate.

Managing director, Paul Moran, commented: “We are in awe of Marcus, what an achievement! Running a marathon requires physical strength but the willpower required is just as impressive; the hours and hours of training involved is no mean feat, especially as he had to train twice!

“The Stroke Association is a wonderful charity and we’re very pleased to support Marcus and the organisation that benefits so many people.”
