With the new footballing season getting under way, one Pocklington resident is still celebrating Germany’s World Cup win – thanks to local developers.
Linden Homes North, which is building the Wilberforce Manor development in the town, and Lindum York – the construction company overseeing the adjacent health centre – teamed up to organise a World Cup neighbours competition.
The two companies invited local residents to predict the winners of this summer’s tournament, stumping up a £100 cash prize.
The winner was Geoff Ullyott – and he was presented with his prize by Linden Homes site manager Gary Aspinall and Lindum York site manager Chris Shaw.
Gary said: “Having construction work going on in your neighbourhood can be difficult at times and, with two different building sites in action, we wanted to show our appreciation to the local residents for their patience and understanding so we organised this as a bit of fun by inviting predictions of the teams to reach the World Cup final and the overall winner.”
