City Buyers Move To The Country To Enjoy The Best Of Both Worlds

Homebuyers in Peterborough looking to escape from the city are finding they can enjoy the best of both worlds in rural locations within easy reach of great road links.

Recent national research by Rightmove showed that city residents contacting estate agents to buy a home in a village rose by 126 per cent in June and July, compared to the same period last year.

And this trend is being seen by local housebuilder Vistry East Midlands – which is currently building new homes at Northstowe, Witchford, Sutton, Sawtry and Deeping St James and has seen rising interest from city-dwellers looking for a peaceful place to call home.

Nic Chapman, Sales and Marketing Director at Vistry East Midlands, said: “As the Rightmove figures suggest, village living has certainly gained further traction due to the pandemic.

“With home-working on the increase, many buyers in Peterborough are now prioritising moving to countryside locations and space within their homes. Living and working in a village makes it easier to enjoy rural views and lunchtime walks in the great outdoors.

“And with the use of public transport also down, people are more interested in good road links into cities rather than the distance to the nearest train station.

“The well-placed locations of our developments in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire with easy access to major roads such as the A1 and A14 ensure that potential buyers can experience the best of both worlds, embracing village life while still retaining easy access to Peterborough, Cambridge and London.

“We’re also seeing a great deal of interest in larger properties with plenty of space for those working from home, especially as buyers can take advantage of the temporary stamp duty holiday, which is in place for property purchases up to £500,000 until the end of March next year.”

Vistry East Midlands is part of the newly formed Vistry Group – which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships – and is building new homes across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Bedfordshire.
