Barnham Trojans, a football club based in Westergate, staged their annual summer tournament with support from a local housebuilder.
Linden Homes sponsored the event for a second year running, donating towards the trophies for the winners.
Held at Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June, the tournament featured 108 teams from across Sussex, Hampshire and beyond, with mixed teams of under 7s and under 14s.
Matt Terry, Chairman of Barnham Trojans Football Club, said: “As a club, we are once again very appreciative of Linden Homes’ support for a second year running. As a non-profit club run entirely by volunteers, we rely on the support of companies to make such events possible.
“Our summer tournament is a great way to promote our small village club, in addition to being our biggest fundraising event, and Linden Homes’ donation helped towards the costs, ultimately making the weekend a huge success.”
Each age group played against each other within a round-robin format, with the top 4 teams progressing to the knock-out stage. Both the winners and runners-up in each final received trophies.
Matt said: “Linden Homes’ donation meant that we could buy nice, good quality trophies, that would genuinely mean something for the players to receive when they won. We’re grateful to be able to celebrate the player’s achievements and encourage them to grow in the sport.
“Two of our teams received plate trophies for winning - the under 10 white team and the under 12 red team - and we had three other teams come as runners-up. There was even a Barnham v Barnham final, seeing siblings competing for the winner’s trophy!
“It was amazing to see so many of our young players reach the finals against some very strong teams from the surrounding areas.”
Barnham Trojans Football Club was founded in 1976 to enable a group of local children to play the sport. Since then, the club has grown to a current membership of over 300 local children and adults from under 6 teams through to adult and veteran teams.
