...As New Chair

The theme of housebuilding will be high on the agenda for the new chair of the Royal Town Planning Institute’s Yorkshire branch.

Taking up the post following confirmation at the group’s AGM on Tuesday November 18th will be Jennifer Winyard, who is Strategic Land and Planning Manager for the northern operations of top five UK housebuilder Linden Homes.

Jennifer (31), who lives in Leeds, will be in the chair until December 2015. She has promised to focus on housing supply as well as highlighting the wider benefits of planning expertise to promote greater cooperation between different professions.

“I’m very proud to be voted in as chair of the RTPI in Yorkshire,” she said. “It’s through housebuilders, like Linden Homes, getting actively involved with the industry conversation at local and national level that we can spur action on issues like providing enough new homes.

“I think delivering more housing for families deserves particular attention at the moment, not just because of my housebuilder background but because it’s going to be a big topic of debate at the general election next year.

“I also want to promote more working between different professions by highlighting the importance of the planning discipline. Our expertise links in with so many activities in the economy that we need to stand up and be counted.”

To help forge these connections, Jennifer will be involved in the RTPI Yorkshire seminar programme showcasing how planners support major regeneration projects across Yorkshire, such as Hull becoming City of Culture and the new Broadway shopping centre in Bradford.

Jennifer is a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI); has an MSc in Town and Country Planning; and is also chair of the Yorkshire and North East branch of Women in Property.

She was also a Young Planner of the Year finalist in the 2014 RTPI Planning for Excellence Awards.

Jennifer is based at the Linden Homes North regional offices in Hessle, Yorkshire, where she is responsible for identifying new land opportunities and securing planning on sites within the existing strategic land portfolio. She reports into Richard Ayre, who heads up Linden Homes’ strategic land team.
