Linden Homes has been granted planning permission to give the site of Winchester’s old Winton Pool on Winton Close, a facelift.
At the moment the site, to the east of Andover Road, is home to the disused, dilapidated and now overgrown swimming pool building which, since it became surplus to requirements, is now just an empty shell of breeze blocks and broken glass.
Linden Homes plans to turn it into a small development - called Winton Gate - that will consist of just nine 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes.
Matt Paine, Linden Homes’ managing director says the development should neatly finish off the housing scheme that is already there:
“Once these new homes are built and the area landscaped, we will have carefully and efficiently transformed this brownfield site – effectively rounding off the adjacent residential area.”
The proposals have been carefully designed to protect the nearby trees – which screen some of the existing properties in neighbouring Park Road. And they’ve already been shown to local residents too. In fact, Linden Homes approached them first and invited them to comment on the layout of the proposed new homes.
Based on the feedback that they received from this initial consultation, Linden Homes reviewed the designs of the new homes in line with their comments.
Once the homes at Winton Gate are complete, they are expected to spark a lot of interest because of their location, just 1km from the centre of Winchester.
