A 10-year-old from Oakfield Junior School saw her award-winning ‘dream bedroom design’ brought to life in Linden Homes’ new show home at River Walk, Fetcham, for the first-time last week.
Based on her love of the outdoors, Freya Wigley’s’ ‘tree-tops’ design included crisp white furniture adorned with climbing roses and decorative bird accessories against a soft blue-sky backdrop, with hand-painted fluffy white clouds.
Freya was crowned winner of the Linden Homes Art Competition in May after her design caught the attention of the housebuilder. Having patiently waited for two months for the show home to be built and furnished since winning the competition, Freya was invited by Linden Homes to see her design in situ along with her family, and the Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, Cllr Simon Ling.
After seeing her design for the first time, Freya said: “I was really nervous to see how my design was going to look in real life but I absolutely love it! The bird boxes, roses and clouds are my favorite parts. The design features elements of my bedroom at home, but is finished with additional items that bring it all together.
“I’m really proud of my design and love drawing in my spare time. A lot of what I do is based on my love of the seaside so it was nice to do something different for the competition!”
Cllr Ling, who presented Freya with a framed picture of her bedroom design to take home, said: “I was delighted to have the chance to present Freya with the picture of the bedroom decorated to her design and to meet her and the rest of her family. I wish her all the best for the rest of her school days and maybe she will choose design as a career in due time. I also commend Linden Homes for their initiative in involving local people.”

While we had many fantastic submissions, Freya’s design called out to us with its originality and it was a real joy bringing her creation to life in the show home.
“With how close River Walk is to Oakfield School and with a number of homes here suitable for families, we feel having a room designed for children, by children, brings a certain charm to the development.”
