Vistry staff tackle Tough Mudder event to raise money for suicide prevention charity

Staff members from a Reading-based housebuilder completed a Tough Mudder challenge in support of its chosen charity Papyrus.

A team of 14 employees from Vistry Thames Valley tackled the fast-paced course, which featured 20 muddy obstacles for them to take on.

Held on Sunday 21 August, the Tough Mudder event took place in the Badminton Estate in South Gloucestershire.

Vistry Thames Valley – part of the Vistry Group which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships – is aiming to raise a total of £5,000 for Papyrus this year.

Following the Tough Mudder event, the housebuilder has now raised a total of £3,300 for the charity, which is dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people – with more fundraising events to follow later in the year.

Papyrus exists to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives, by shattering the stigma surrounding suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress.

The charity provides confidential support to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, or to those worried about a young person, through their helpline.

Trevor Wicks, managing director of Vistry Thames Valley, was part of the team which completed the challenge.

He said: “It was a fantastic way to raise money for such an important charity, as everyone who took part had a great time together.

“Not only did we feel a massive sense of accomplishment once we’d completed the event, but it also served as a great team bonding experience for us. Having done five Tough Mudder runs previously, I knew what to expect, so I could help those out who were less familiar with the course.

“The team really got stuck into the event, and there was a great sense of team spirit throughout the day. I’m so proud of my team for taking part, and for helping to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

“The work that Papyrus does makes an incredible impact – in many cases it is life-saving – and we want to raise as much as we can to help support them.”
