Vistry apprentice nominated for Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award

A marketing assistant apprentice for housebuilder Vistry Group has been nominated for a top apprenticeship award.

Thomas Purveur, who is based at Vistry Cotswolds’ regional headquarters in Bishops Cleeve, is one of just three finalists to be shortlisted for the title of Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Technology, Digital & Creative), at the 2022 Gloucestershire Live Apprentice Awards.

The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 22 September at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester. The event, run in association with Business Live, is a chance to celebrate outstanding apprentices for their hard-earned achievements and thank the businesses for helping them succeed.

Tom said: “A big part of my job is to help Vistry promote Gloucestershire as a great place to live and work in, which is easy for me as I am very proud of my roots in this county, and I honestly believe this is true.

“I am so grateful to be nominated for Outstanding Apprentice of the Year, as it means a lot to me to have my achievements recognised.

“My mother works in the industry, and I have been lucky enough to follow in her footsteps. She’s been a massive inspiration to me, and she is very proud of my nomination.

“I can’t thank Vistry enough for the opportunity they have given me. This apprenticeship has given me the chance to receive a high-quality education and on-the-job experience.

“I was always keen to get out into the workplace over going to university, and I feel that I have made the right decision. This apprenticeship has provided me with transferable job skills as well as growing my confidence in myself and the work I produce.”

Tom joined Vistry Cotswolds in August 2021 and is undertaking a two-year Level 3 diploma in marketing. He hopes to stay at the company after qualifying and work his way up to a senior position within the marketing division.

He said: “I am nervous for the awards night, and of course it would be brilliant if I won. I wish the best of luck to the other apprentices nominated and I am proud of my achievements regardless of the outcome.”

Vistry Cotswolds directly employs 140 people including nine apprentices and trainees, aged between 17 and 22, across a range of disciplines, including bricklaying and business administration.

Supriya Ray, managing director of Vistry Cotswolds, said: “Myself and the team at Vistry Cotswolds are incredibly proud of Tom and we wish him the very best of luck at the Apprentice Awards.

“We are pleased but not surprised that he has been nominated for Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in his category, as he produces great work and is a valuable member of our team.

“Tom started with Vistry in the middle of the pandemic which meant that he had to learn very quickly how to communicate and engage with colleagues remotely. He has the confidence to work unsupervised but is also a reliable and engaging team player – full of ideas and capable of putting his technological skills into practice.

“We believe he has an extremely bright future in the industry, and we are looking forward to seeing him progress his career even further with us in the years ahead.”
