To celebrate Sherford’s first major anniversary, marking one year since the first brick was placed at the town, the Sherford Consortium - the partnership of award-winning homebuilders, Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Taylor Wimpey - has released time-lapse footage showcasing the scale of works and progress being made in the construction of the new community.

A camera was installed onsite from July 2016 – August 2017, with the video capturing footage during the initial stages of construction, helping to document the monumental amount of work, people and machinery involved in the town’s creation. From the construction of the main community entrance, to the completion of the first homes and sales offices, the three-minute video offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at what has been happening at the new community in just the past year.

With the first brick being placed last summer, marking the official start of the home build, the release of the time-lapse footage celebrates a major milestone in the community’s two-decade history. In one year, considerable progress has been made in the initial phase of the town’s development, with the first roads, streets and homes now completed and open to the public.

During this time first residents were also welcomed to Sherford, which will eventually be home to over 12,000 people. Approximately 600 homes will be built in the first phase of construction, as well as a range of new amenities and commercial buildings.

Brian Deacon, Sales and Marketing Director, Sherford Consortium said: “The time-lapse video is a fantastic opportunity to help show the public exactly what has been happening at Sherford over the past year, and we are extremely proud to have reached this point. Since the first brick was placed, construction has progressed quickly and is the result of much hard work, planning and craftsmanship by many over the past two decades.

“There have been several significant moments since last summer, with the biggest being welcoming the first residents, helping to make the vision of Sherford a reality. With many more people soon to call Sherford ‘home’, it is much more than just the construction of a new housing development; it is the creation of a brand new, thriving community, run by its residents.”

Cllr Michael Hicks, South Hams District Council’s Lead Member for Sherford said: “Not many of us will have the opportunity to witness the development of a new town at close range. Existing towns have an established, hidden infrastructure and it is these preliminary stages which the short video shows. The icing on the cake is that the visual evidence of Sherford, i.e. the houses etc., will be the result of careful design and quality construction.”
