Tick Tock Goes The Stamp Duty Clock

Any first-time buyers, in and around Bristol, looking to purchase a home, should make it a priority to visit Linden Homes Western, as it is their last chance to take advantage of the government’s stamp duty holiday.

This temporary two-year scheme to encourage people onto the property ladder began in March 2009 and means that those buying their first home before 25 March  this year are exempt from the one-per-cent stamp duty charge, as long as their new property costs less than £250,000. So, by acting fast, first-time buyers might save as much as £2,500 – money which could be spent on furnishing the new home.

Last year, financial commentators had speculated that this stamp duty holiday might be extended again, but, in his autumn statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer made no mention of an extension – and so the March deadline stands.
