Stay Safe Around Construction Sites As The Dark Nights Approach (Midlands)
14 Oct 2014

Love it or loathe it – autumn is well on its way as the clocks go back later this month, bringing with it darker nights.

As tempting as it may be to sneak a quick peek around an exciting new homes development out of hours, or even as daylight fades, Linden Homes Midlands has issued a reminder about potential construction site dangers as the nights draw in.

The award-winning developer issues warnings each year aimed at youngsters who may see building sites as an alternative adventure playground during the school holidays.

But with customer safety paramount, Linden Homes is re-iterating its advice to home hunters of all ages warning that construction sites – busy or quiet – can present dangers.

Linden Homes sales director Chris Roads said: “We always ask our customers to report to the sales and marketing suite on their arrival, and a member of the sales team will accompany them onto site. Our health and safety guidelines also state that customers must wear protective clothing if they are going onto site.

“As darkness is now creeping into early evening, and soon into late afternoon, we cannot stress enough the dangers of people trying to get onto a site for a look around unaccompanied or out of hours – as some of our developments do not open every day of the week.

“There are many hidden hazards that could cause serious injury – like excavations or low headroom/ scaffolding.”

Linden Homes does have strict and visible guidelines in place at each construction site.

Here are a few common sense rules to follow and typical hazards to look out for:

  • Couples/groups need to stay together
  • Keep to safe defined routes and watch your footing
  • Keep away from excavations and trenches
  • Be particularly careful when passing under scaffolding and do not linger
  • Keep away from stacks of material
  • Before passing machinery make sure the operator sees you and acknowledges you
  • Never go on site outside daylight hours
  • Never climb ladders or scaffolding, material stacks or any part of the construction site
  • Please be aware of sharp objects and the possibility of wet paint, adhesives, concrete etc.

Active Linden Homes Midlands developments are opening at weekends.
