Second Visioning Event Press Statement
26 Mar 2014

Community representatives and ward councillors attended a second ‘visioning event’ organised by Linden Homes regarding its plans to develop land between Steamer Quay and Weston Lane, Bridgetown, Totnes.

The event, which was held on 25 March, gave attendees the opportunity to view the revised site layout for 100 new homes and areas of public open space alongside scheme elevations. In addition, members of the project team, including the scheme’s architect, highlighted the amendments made to the scheme since the first visioning event in February.
These included a decrease in the development line, an increase in open space on the site, the inclusion of an area for allotments and the introduction of footpath and cycle links to improve permeability to and from the site.

The principle of developing the site and all matters regarding points of access have previously been established, as the site benefits from outline planning permission granted in 2013. The plans being progressed by Linden Homes will form a ‘Reserved Matters’ application, which will deal with detailed aspects of the scheme such as layout, appearance, landscaping and scale.

Councillor Judy Westacott who attended the event said: “Following the granting of outline planning permission for the Riverside site, Councillor Mike Hannaford and I – the ward councillors – have met regularly with Linden Homes. We have passed on the concerns of the residents and have reported back to residents following every meeting with Linden. As a result, changes have been made wherever it has been possible. This has been a successful partnership and the principles set an example of good practice for other developers to follow.”
A spokesperson for Linden Homes said:

“We would like to thank all those who attended both our ‘visioning events’ and our public exhibition in December. Although we have undertaken previous consultation, both ‘visioning events’ have given us a further opportunity to hear from ward councillors and community representatives, to address concerns and to explain how the scheme has progressed.

“We will now review all feedback with our project team and maintain contact with the community to inform and update them on the next stages of the project. Our future update correspondence will include details of feedback received throughout the consultation process, our responses to this feedback and how the plans have been amended.”
