One of area’s best-loved village events – which raises funds to be ploughed back into the local community – is this year being supported by housebuilder Linden Homes Midlands.
Now in its 14th year, having started as a May Day market, the Uffington Scarecrows Festival is a regular fixture in the village’s social calendar; attracting up to 5,000 visitors over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
As well as a trail of between 45 and 50 scarecrows with accompanying quiz and competition, visitors can enjoy a craft barn and craft displays, pony, train and miniature bus rides, church tower trips, a farm machinery display, classic cars, farm corner, welly wanging, flypasts of historic planes and traditional games.
Refreshments will include lunches, delicious cakes and a BBQ. All profits are re-invested in the village, including helping to pay for water supply to the village church and the re-development of the village hall’s front and rear walled gardens. This year the church is also investing in accessible ramps/paths.
Linden Homes Midlands is this year helping to support the event by supplying tote shopping bags for visitors, as well as having a marquee at the event to promote its new development in Barnack.
One of the event organisers, Vanessa Kimberley, said: “The Festival is spread out over the whole village and has become a firm favourite with visitors from the village and further afield.
“We are very grateful to Linden Homes for their support and look forward to seeing a great number of families and their friends over the weekend.”
