Location, Location, Location? Think Laterally
23 Aug 2013

Now that another beach hut has sold this summer for an astonishing £200,000, it really would seem that location overrides everything. Reportedly not much larger than a garden shed, this beautifully situated, if bijou, holiday home sleeps four – it doesn’t have four bedrooms... it just sleeps four.

But it is obvious that coastal properties will always command big prices. Look online at the property websites for a three bedroom house in sunny Weymouth. What do you find?

To start with, there is one advert that suggests you might like to make an offer for a three bedroom property ‘in excess of £600,000’; another invites you to pay £650,000. Admittedly one does have amazing sea views and the other comes with a large plot of land, but elsewhere in this lovely Dorset coastal town you may well be asked to pay over £400,000 for a three bedroom terraced home.

It is a case of location, location, location. But think laterally. What if you chose a slightly different location – one with a sought after DT3 Weymouth postcode, but set in rural surroundings. Still close to the coast, but tucked away from the busy holiday traffic and surges of tourists.

Have a look at online again and find Lorton Gardens, Linden Homes’ new development on the outskirts of Weymouth.

Lorton Gardens is a collection of 20 beautifully designed Linden Homes set at the end of Lorton Lane near to the beautiful Lorton Meadows nature reserve and only 3.5 miles from Weymouth city centre.

Tina Chalk is the marketing manager at Linden Homes Southern: “This is not a busy, ice cream filled sea front – it is a quiet and beautiful semi-rural haven. Its advantage is that it is not in the heart of a busy seaside town.

“And what you certainly wouldn’t get for this price in the heart of Weymouth is the fully integrated kitchen (which includes washer/dryer, oven, hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer), a builder’s ten year warranty and the very latest standards of energy efficiency and security.”

Similarly to Weymouth, those living at Lorton Gardens have access to the public transport system. These homes are within really easy reach of the main bus route between Weymouth and Dorchester. It is around half a mile away from Upwey railway station which offers regular services to London Waterloo (around 3 hours away), Bournemouth and Southampton, and Bristol Temple Meads (about a 2.5 hour journey).

The major A35, A353 and A354 routes from Weymouth, link to motorway networks to the east, the west and the north.

So you can enjoy all the fun of life beside the seaside only 3 miles away, and when you have had enough ice cream and holiday atmosphere, you can retreat to your quiet haven amongst the meadows.
