Local Mums Set The Pace At London Marathon
03 May 2012

Two local mums from St Albans ran the London Marathon in record time last week, helping to raise over £6000 for children’s charity The PACE Centre.

Completing the 26.2 mile course in just four hours 36 minutes, Anne Peters and Linda Hodgson both took on the challenge so they could raise vital funds for the PACE school, which provides expert care and learning for children with severe disabilities such as cerebral palsy.

Both Anne and Linda were keen to raise as much money as possible for the charity as family friend Daniel Oakey has been attending the school since 2002.

The total figure also included a sizeable donation from local house builders Wates Developments and Linden Homes, whose Technical Director, Jeremy Alden, also completed the gruelling challenge.

Jeremy didn’t quite beat the super-fit mums but did manage to raise a remarkable £5,400 for children’s charity Whizz-Kidz. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for disabled children through the provision of customised mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and tricycles.

Anne said of the marathon: “We were so pleased to have completed the marathon in our target time – it was a huge achievement for us both but most importantly we were delighted to raise so much money for this worthwhile charity. Bring it on again next year!”
