LINCOLN MP Karl McCartney has praised Peterborough-based Linden Homes (Linden) for its scheme at The River Side, Oasis, situated next to the Fossdyke Canal.
The site of the former E2V factory has been transformed by the award-winning house builder with a high-quality new housing scheme.
The scheme of 255 homes is now entering its final phase of development. Sales on the site have been extremely good since its launch in September 2011 with the new homes proving extremely popular.
Touring the site along with Linden’s Technical Director Barry Maynard, Mr McCartney was provided with an overview of the scheme before visiting the show homes adjacent to the canal.
Mr McCartney and Mr Maynard discussed the site, challenges facing the industry in Lincoln, and Linden’s national apprenticeship scheme, which aims to recruit 500 apprentices across its 11-regions over the next few years. Linden currently employs three apprentices on its Oasis site, who Mr McCartney took time to talk to during his visit.
Following the visit, Mr McCartney said: “It was great to have had the opportunity to visit Linden’s site, which has positively transformed the area. I was impressed by the scheme which I thought was both attractive in design and sympathetic to the existing residents in the area. It is a beautiful setting next to the canal and a fantastic development.”
He added: “I was particularly impressed to learn about Linden’s apprenticeship scheme, and it was nice to have had the opportunity to speak to apprentices Dan Wells and George Young. Apprenticeships play an important role in helping young people gain employment, and I’m pleased that Linden is placing so much emphasis on investing in them.”
Mr Maynard added: “It was a welcomed opportunity to chat to Mr McCartney about the development and the Linden Homes way of building high quality schemes and indeed communities.”
