Leading housebuilder, Linden Homes (part of Vistry Group) has made a £250 donation towards a defibrillator at its Kilnhurst Gardens development, which could help potentially save a life.
Organised and obtained by local homeowner Philip Harwood-Long, the defibrillator is a welcome addition to the community.
Philip said: “With the NHS under so much pressure at the moment, the vital time the defibrillator could save makes all the difference between someone living and dying.
“When I first suggested the idea of a community defibrillator, I was overwhelmed by the positive response from everyone in the development. With the additional help from Linden Homes, we now also have a healthy fund to oversee the maintenance and any essential repairs to the equipment, which we’re incredibly grateful for.”
Previously a first aid practitioner, Philip also oversees residents’ training in the use of the defibrillator, with the equipment now mounted externally to one owner’s house to maintain an electricity supply and minimum temperature requirements. He continued: “Those vital few seconds are a lifesaver. For every minute it takes for a defibrillator to reach someone in cardiac arrest, chances of survival decrease by 10%. Having one onsite and being able to use it within four minutes increases those odds by 74%.”
Jo Dixon, Marketing Manager at Linden Homes South commented: “Kilnhurst Gardens is such a lovely, close-knit community and we’re delighted to have helped with the purchase of the defibrillator. To have one available for public use is vital, you never know when you might need lifesaving equipment such as this.”
The development defibrillator is available for all to use at Kilnhurst Gardens and is registered with the South West Ambulance Service.
