Linden Homes Builds On Community Links During York School Visit
05 Mar 2013

CONSTRUCTION has become child’s play for York youngsters during a hands-on visit to Linden Homes’ newest housing development.

The award-winning developer hosted a visit by pupils and teachers from the Mowbray Special School in Bedale at the prestigious new 1877 development at Ouseacre.

Named in tribute to the building of what in its heyday was the largest railway station in the world, 1877 received its official opening at the start of the year, with the young visitors getting a glimpse of what goes into building a house.

Around 14 children – all with moderate or severe learning/ communication difficulties –took their term topic out of the classroom and onto the construction site, with the help of Linden Homes’ site manager Nick Pennington and his team.

Teacher Laura Hoyland said: “The children greatly benefit from sensory experiences and so in class we have been feeling different materials involved in the building process. After looking at the story of the Three Little Pigs and why the brick house was best, we were given the opportunity to visit a building site to look at how houses are constructed.”

She added: “The visit was fantastic and we really want to thank Linden Homes for making it possible. The children were able to observe a wide range of things, talk about site safety and also got chance to touch some materials that are used in the building process.

“As a school we do really feel that being on site, experiencing the sounds, smells and touching the materials will help the children to comprehend how the building process happens.”

Site manager Nick Pennington added: “Linden Homes is always delighted to engage with the local community and we were really pleased to welcome youngsters and teachers from the Mowbray School to the development and hope it was beneficial to their term topic studies.”

Once complete, the 1877 development will comprise a stunning selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes in a quiet corner of North Yorkshire – boasting designer kitchens and bathrooms, energy efficiency fittings and the latest hi-tech wiring for home entertainment and communication are among the many benefits.

The development is perfectly positioned, just a four-minute drive from the railway station and less than 10 minutes from bustling centre of York.
