Last Chance To Secure A Defibrillator For Your Community
21 Jun 2019

Does your community need a defibrillator?

Community clubs, charities and schools can apply to receive one of five defibrillator grants thanks to Linden Homes’ annual charity golf day, which raised an impressive £30,000! The money has been split between the defibrillator initiative and the other half has been donated to FORCE Cancer Charity, the company’s charity of the year.

Key stakeholders played golf at Torquay’s 18 hole golf course, where there was also a putting competition, a raffle and an auction. Bradley Davison, managing director of Linden Homes, said: “We are delighted that the golf day was so well received and that we managed to raise such a large sum of money. We appreciate how vital defibrillators are but also how expensive they can be so we’re inviting communities to send in their nominations to win a defibrillator grant by the end of June to emma.mackay@lindenhomes.co.uk and five winners will be selected by 8th July.”

Bradley added: “We’re also pleased FORCE has received £15,000 as the organisation provides an important service to those who have been diagnosed with cancer. The charity needs to raise £1.7 million a year so we know just how much they rely on donations.”

FORCE offers support (including counselling, complementary therapies, benefits advice and specialist nurses) to people affected by cancer at its centre next to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. There are also support services available in Tiverton, Okehampton and Honiton one day a week. FORCE has a charity shop in Exeter and funds research and innovation.

Oliver Watts from FORCE said: “We are thrilled with the money raised by Linden Homes. We really depend on donations and fundraising activities like this to provide the money we desperately need. So many are affected by cancer and the more we can do to support people and their families locally, the better.”

The event was Linden Homes’ sixth charity golf day and over £124,000 has been raised for local organisations to date, including: Torbay Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Neonatal Unit, Rowcroft Hospice, Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, Children’s Hospice South West, Footsteps for Louie, Torbay Holiday Helpers Network and the East Devon and Exeter Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Linden Homes is currently building homes in Exeter, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Blackawton, Sherford, Barnstaple and Falmouth.
