When Jacob Auckland left Sheffield University and returned to Pontefract, he got a job in retail – working for Lidl. But the cost of living proved challenging and he opted to live in the family home.
“I got a couple of quick promotions to assistant manager and felt strongly that I should get a place of my own. It was either renting somewhere or opting for a Help to Buy scheme,” said Jacob.
When the Help to Buy options didn’t stack up for Jacob he turned to Linden Homes, who were promoting their Home Reach scheme at their Manor Park development in Pontefract.
“My mum encouraged me to go and have a look at a three-bedroom property on the development and I reluctantly went along thinking I could never afford it. But with the Heylo shared ownership approach, we managed to come up with a package that worked for me,” said Jacob (25).
“I loved the house which was spacious and had both a garden and a garage. The reality didn’t really sink in until I actually moved into it back in November 2018. It’s close to my family home and just up the road from work – so it is perfect. I love having my own independence.”
