Introducing St Bartholomew's Grange - A New Landmark On An Historic Site In Newbury (24\02\2012)
24 Feb 2012

Linden Homes held an exclusive event at the St Bartholomew’s Grange development today to celebrate the opening of the new show apartment in the Luker building. Just fifteen people were selected to visit the site, including the former and present head teachers of St Barts school.

The development is set on the historic site of the old St Barts school and, once the pupils moved into their new multi-million pound purpose built premises just a few hundred yards away, Linden Homes began the task of transforming the old Victorian and Edwardian structures into a series of elegant one, two and three bedroom apartments.

Sales manager at Linden Homes Southern, Laura O’Hara, lead proceedings on the day, she said: “It was important to us that teachers, trustees, members of Berkshire Council and estate agents, who were all instrumental in progressing the development of the site were allowed a sneak preview to areas of the Luker building not yet open to the public. The building is valuable to them and we were keen to demonstrate the work we are carrying out.”

The new show apartment was opened by the current headteacher of the school, Mrs Haddrell, who commented: “I am thrilled at the careful restoration Linden Homes is carrying out on the building; not only have they kept some of the original features, they have spent time and money repairing elements of the building that make it so unique. We’re all looking forward to seeing how the scheme progresses throughout the year.”

While the extensive and sensitive refurbishment work in the old Wormestall and Luker buildings has got under way, Linden Homes has also started creating a series of new townhouses and detached family homes in the former school’s grounds. Once all this building and refurbishment work is complete, the grounds - with their abundance of beautiful old trees - will be carefully landscaped.

Already it’s possible to see the shape of things to come in the form of the new three bedroom show house which is available for viewing now: And in the marketing suite there are intricate models of St Bartholomew’s Grange that demonstrate how the development will look when it’s complete.

The elegant Luker building on Andover Road will contain 22 new apartments, a few of which have been created with dramatic and extremely stylish full height mezzanine floors. At Wormestall, the site of the old Newbury Boys Grammar School, the old Victorian building is being transformed to provide just 14 apartments.

Between the two buildings, off Enborne Road and Buckingham Road, there are now a series of smart three and four bedroom houses and townhouses. There are also two detached four bedroom houses with generous gardens available too.

St Bartholomew’s Grange is around ten minutes walk into Newbury town centre and train station.

Newbury itself is at the cross roads between London and the west, the south coast and the Midlands: It is close to the M4 (for London, Swindon, Bristol and the West Country), the M40 (for Oxford and the Midlands) and the A34 (for Winchester, Southampton and the south coast). There are excellent rail links to Reading (in 19 minutes) and London Paddington (in 51 minutes).

This bustling and very conveniently located market town is surrounded by the beautiful Berkshire countryside and is just six miles from the extraordinarily picturesque Highclere Castle, the setting for ITV’s Downton Abbey.

Part Exchange allows you to buy and sell in one quick move: Linden Homes will take care of the valuations of your new home and make you an offer within seven days.
