Having A Ball To Raise Money For Children
17 May 2016

A North East children’s charity has struck a ballroom bonus after funding for its work was bolstered by one of the region’s top housebuilders.

The £5,761 proceeds from the Galliford Try Partnerships North Charity Ball have been donated to Children North East, which can now ‘tap’ into the extra money to support its work with young people across the region in most need.

Guests dined, danced - and more importantly – donated at the event held at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle.

Carol Taylor, Senior Fundraiser with Children North East, said: “This is the second year that Galliford Try has held its Charity Ball in our honour and this generous donation has given our fundraising totals a real boost”

“Every penny will be spent supporting our services that provide a real lifeline for many children, young people and families facing issues in their lives which can damage confidence, undermine self-esteem and ultimately prevent them from achieving their true potential.”

Established in 1891, this year Children North East celebrates 125 years of work in the region improving the lives of children, young people and families. Originally known as the Poor Children’s Holiday Association, its purpose was to offer support to inner city children giving them a ‘hand up, not a hand out’. This ethos continues through the services provided today. To find out more, visit www.children-ne.org.uk.

Quick stepping across town to hand over the money, Stephen McCoy, Managing Director with Galliford Try Partnerships North, said “We have forged an excellent relationship with Children North East in recent years, initially established through our participation in their annual Sandcastle Challenge events.”

“The real difference they make to the lives of the children they work with is truly heart-warming. As a company, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build, so becoming involved with such an exceptional charity - active across the length and breadth of our region - seemed an obvious choice.”

Galliford Try Partnerships North is building throughout the North East from Sowerby near Thirsk to Alnwick and from South Shields to Ponteland.
