A Hampshire student was awarded the Linden Homes Interior Decoration award at the Solent University Art, Design and Fashion Summer show which showcases the work produced by the students before they launch into their professional careers.
Award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes has partnered with Solent University for the past three years providing the BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration students with real-world experiences throughout their university careers.
Susan Whiting, Linden Homes’ marketing manager for the South region had the pleasure of judging the students inspiring interior design work and awarded the first place price to Abigail Burden, which included £100 of Amazon vouchers.
Abigail aged 22, originally from Emsworth, specialises in hand painted textiles and her collection of vibrant, tasteful fabrics combined with the beautifully designed mood boards of the fabrics at work made her a clear winner.
Abigail Burden said: “We’ve all worked so hard on our final projects and I’m thrilled Linden Homes is impressed with my work! It’s a real confidence boost as I begin the search for my first industry role.
“I’d like to thank Solent University for helping me along the way over the three years and to Linden Homes for the award.”
The exhibition showcased work created by the students and perfectly portrayed the unique skills taught on the course. Lydia Southwell, Southampton Solent University Course Leader teaches the students the necessary skills to become a fully-fledged interior designer.
The course is produced in conjunction with industry expectations and is linked to professional practice, which Linden Homes has helped provide over the last three years.
Susan Whiting, commented: “I was blown away by the quality and standard of the work. It was a phenomenal show and a privilege to have been asked to judge the students work for the Linden Homes Interior Decoration award.
“All the students had clearly put an incredible amount of time and effort into their final year project and it was a very tough decision. Following the visits we hosted to some of the Linden Homes developments, it was great to see some of our very own show homes at Crowdhill Green and Scholars Grange re-designed!
“We selected Abigail as our winner for her incredible and inspiring fabric designs – from a tropical wildlife to calming florals – it was truly fantastic, she really impressed us with her outstanding creativity and skill shown in her work. All her work on display was beautiful and you could immediately see how they would work as a piece of interior design. We’d love to have Abigail’s work shown in one of our Linden Homes show homes one day.
“It has been wonderful working with Lydia and the team over the past year and we hope our partnership with Solent University will continue for many years to come.”
Following her first place award at the show, Linden Homes has invited Abigail to gain some real industry experience with the Linden Home’s bespoke interior design team to help kick-start her career in the world of interior design.
