Fundraisers Chip In Thousands At Linden Homes Charity Golf Day
18 Jul 2014

Fundraisers teed off in aid of an Oxfordshire children’s and young adults’ hospice at a charity golf day organised by award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes Thames Valley.

Linden Homes Thames Valley – whose parent company Galliford Try is official supplier to the 2014 Ryder Cup – ran the event for Helen & Douglas House and succeeded in raising £5,500

The successful get-together pitched 15 teams of Linden Homes Thames Valleys’ contractors and suppliers against each other in friendly rivalry on Friday July 11th at The Springs Hotel & Golf Club in Wallingford.

As well as the main four-ball team contest, there was a series of extra challenges including longest drive, nearest-the-pin and “golden ball”.

The fun day concluded with a three-course dinner, an awards ceremony, and a charity raffle and auction to add even more money to the pot.

Linden Homes Thames Valley managing director, Peter Carpinelli, said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended the inaugural Linden Homes Thames Valley Charity Golf Day. There was an excellent turnout of players as well as supporters who all had a fantastic time. With the sum raised for charity and so many requests to repeat the Charity Golf Day, I intend to make this an annual event.”

The event organiser, Linden Homes Thames Valley construction manager, Phil Brady said: “We are delighted with the amount that we raised for Helen & Douglas House.  It’s very important to us to back such worthy causes as Helen & Douglas House because they play such a valued and important role for the area’s families. We’re a housebuilder but we know how important it is also to support the communities where our customers live.”

Hugh Thompson, head of major partnerships, Helen & Douglas House, said: “Helen & Douglas House relies almost entirely on the generosity of our supporters in the community. We are delighted that Linden Homes has raised this money in aid of the charity and want to thank everyone involved.

“The donation will help us provide specialist care for the most vulnerable young people with highly complex medical conditions and offer emotional and practical support for their families.”

Helen & Douglas House cares for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and supports their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling.

Helen House opened in 1982 as the world's first children's hospice. Douglas House opened in 2004 specifically for young adults aged 16-35.

The charity cares for people mainly, but not exclusively, from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, and parts of London. To find out more, visit
