It’s 115 metres high; 570 steps from the safety of ground level, and it can be seen from more than twenty three miles away.
So, if you happened to glance across at Spinnaker Tower on the afternoon of Sunday 19th April, you might just have spotted Linden Homes’ Sally Frampton dangling precariously from this iconic Hampshire landmark.
Sally, Linden Homes Southern’s Connections Manager, was joined by her colleague’s daughter, Libby Watt to battle feisty gusts of wind to abseil down the Tower at Gunwharf Quays in aid of Oakhaven Hospice.
The daring pair’s descent helped to raise in excess of £4,000 for Oakhaven – a cause close to the hearts of the staff at Linden Homes’ Totton office, whilst the whole day’s proceedings raised funds of over £20,000.
Sally, whose smile never wavered as she clipped into the harness and launched herself into the air, said the experience was one she wouldn’t forget in a hurry:
“It was a beautiful day and the views were incredible. You are concentrating so hard on getting down that you don’t have time to feel nervous. It was a once in a lifetime experience – and I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored us. Libby and I were very glad to reach ground level again – and so pleased we could help to raise some funds for Oakhaven Hospice.”
Jill West is the community fundraiser at Oakhaven Hospice and says Sally, Libby and the other fundraising abseilers did brilliantly:
“They were all so brave: It’s an amazing achievement and we are so grateful. So far the event has raised over £20,000, which is fantastic. We are already planning another sponsored abseiling adventure next year – probably in April 2016.”
