Charity Wheels Keep On Turning For House Builder's Fundraising Cycle Ride Team
11 May 2017

With the countdown on to one of the area’s biggest fundraising cycling events – staff from Linden Homes East Yorkshire are taking their pedal power up a gear.

A team from the Hessle-based new homes developer has entered into the Humber Bridge Cycle Sportive, which is now in its fourth year and attracted some 600 riders in 2016.

Darren Johnson, supply chain manager at Linden Homes, has entered a team of seven into the event, following an appeal to colleagues across the commercial, land, production, sales and technical departments – with the team now in training for next month’s big bike bash.

He said: “I do enjoy cycling, in particular in the summer months. I became involved in cycling once again when I started entering charitable sporting events two years ago

“A few of us took part in a Linden Homes 42-mile charity bike ride last year, so I thought it would be good to get that team spirit going again with this summer’s Sportive.”

The event takes place on Sunday 18 June, starting and finishing at the Hesslewood Country Office Park – with the aim of raising as much money as possible for local charities.

Riders, whatever their ability can choose from three routes – either 22, 42 or 62 miles – and each route will take in the quiet roads of North Lincolnshire before returning back to base across the Humber Bridge.

LHEY has entered a split team doing either 22 and 42 miles, however, depending how training is progressing a few cyclists say they may opt for the 62-mile distance on the day. The company has paid the £300 registration fee for all riders.

Joining the team are sales executives Hannah Shepherd and Vanessa Allison. No stranger to fundraising, Vanessa –based at the Swanland Gardens development - has taken part in a range of events to boost coffers for local charities.

She said: “I’ve done several sponsored walks and last year took part in the Bubble Run which was great fun. I’m very much looking forward to the Sportive and am already in training on my brand new road bike!”
