Solent University Interior Design Students Honoured By Linden Homes
04 Aug 2020

Final year Interior Design and Decoration students at Solent University have received a special accolade from Linden Homes for the presentation of their final major projects using a virtual pitch scenario.

With an open brief from the University for their final major project, the students were able to focus on any element of interior design they wished. This year, Linden Homes was presented with designs inspired by treehouse living, accessible homes and co-working spaces, to name a few.

Linden Homes South Marketing Manager, Jo Dixon said: “Working with the Solent University students is always a real pleasure and, once again, their ideas and designs have been really impressive and inspiring. It’s also been particularly interesting to see the development of the students’ work, as we had previously worked with this cohort when they started their interior design journeys and visited our Boorley Park development for a show home redesign project in their first year.

“Although the process was a bit different this year, thanks to home-working and collaboration tools and technologies, we were pleased to still be able to provide the students with our feedback.

“Traditionally we would select one student as the overall winner but given the additional challenges they have faced this year, we are rewarding each of them with a gift voucher in recognition of their hard work.”

Lydia Southwell, Solent University Course Leader, BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration added: “This final major project is an important rite of passage for the students, with the University’s annual Art, Design and Fashion Summer Show helping them taking that step from academia to a professional environment. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to hold the show this year so the offer from Jo to virtually judge the students’ work and give them that opportunity to present has been gratefully received.”

Linden Homes also welcomed first year students once again to its flagship Boorley Park development to view The Fincham show home earlier this year prior to lockdown. As part of their visit, the students were provided with an overview of the process behind how the team selects the designs for the interiors based on their insights into the anticipated purchaser profile. The students would also usually be tasked with redesigning the ground floor of the show home and present their ideas back to Linden Homes as part of a live project.

Boorley Park is a growing community near Botley including a new primary school, shops, a community centre and a range of stunning homes to suit a variety of prospective buyers.
