Linden Homes Supports Ryder Cup Through Galliford Try
27 Feb 2014

Award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes will be supporting the golfing action of The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles after parent company Galliford Try plc signed an agreement to be the Official Supplier of construction and engineering services to The 2014 Ryder Cup.

Linden Homes is part of Galliford Try, the housebuilding and construction group, which also includes Morrison Construction, Galliford Try’s Scottish business.

Group managing director of Linden Homes, Andrew Richards, said: “The Ryder Cup is an incredibly exciting and impressive sporting clash, so it’s a real honour to be associated with the contest in 2014.

“The spirit of community and cultural involvement that we have at Linden Homes runs throughout the entire Galliford Try group. Supporting major events like this shows how seriously we take that philosophy and the time, effort and money we invest to keep it strong.

“Being part of an organisation as diverse and robust as Galliford Try delivers tangible value as it brings the group’s national strength to every part; sharing expertise, resources, influence and a credible heritage of business achievement and reputation.”

The Scottish team at Morrison Construction are building two temporary coach terminals for The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles as well as being the preferred partner for any additional construction works.

Morrison Construction is one of the leading contractors in Scotland, with an impressive portfolio of projects across the country, including the largest infrastructure project in Scotland for 30 years, the Forth replacement crossing.

Edward Kitson, Ryder Cup Match Director, said: “The coach terminals being constructed by the firm are key to the successful delivery of thousands of spectators to and from Gleneagles and we are very pleased that, as well as being built to the highest specifications, there is also a high priority being placed on environmental issues while delivering the project.”

Key to Galliford Try’s decision to become an Official Supplier was The 2014 Ryder Cup organisers commitment to a sustainable procurement code that places a high priority on environmental issues and seeks to maximise the use of renewable energy, deliver zero waste to landfill, and minimise water consumption through reuse and recycling at tournaments.

This commitment aligns with Linden Homes’ business philosophy which saw the company named ‘Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year’ at the 2013 Housebuilder awards.

Already, the innovative approach taken to construct the two coach terminals has saved 88 tonnes of CO2.
