Housebuilder Helps Light Up Sutton This Christmas

Sutton High Street is going to be lit up this festive season, thanks to the help of a local housebuilder.

Linden Homes, part of Vistry Group, has donated £250 to Sutton Parish Council towards the cost of 30 solar-powered hanging Christmas tree baskets.

The trees, which hang outside residents’ homes along the Cambridgeshire village’s High Street, will continue to light up throughout the Christmas period.

Developed by Plantscape, the hanging Christmas trees are made from recyclable materials and are powered by solar energy.

Rosie Hughes, clerk to Sutton Parish Council, said: “We are really grateful to Linden Homes for this generous donation and for helping us to bring this seasonal festivity to our village.

“The pandemic has meant we haven’t been able to hold our usual Christmas events, so to be able to provide these trees for our village residents and spread some festive cheer is great.”

Linden Homes is currently building 77 new properties in Sutton at its Laithwaite Gardens development, located off Mepal Road.

Laura Thomas, sales manager for Laithwaite Gardens, said: “The council reached out to us last year for help on another project, but sadly it never went ahead due to the pandemic. So, when Rosie got in touch again seeking support towards the cost of the Christmas trees, we were keen to get involved.

“As we are building new homes in Sutton, we very much feel part of the village community and thought it was only fitting that we show our support to the local council. We hope it encourages residents to get into the festive spirit. It’s lovely seeing the High Street lit up.”

All homes in phase one of Laithwaite Gardens are now sold, but plans for a second phase of 173 properties are being finalised, with work anticipated to start next year.
