Get Cosy In A New Home This Autumn And Save Money On Winter Energy Bills
11 Oct 2021

With the UK facing a hike in energy bills - cosying up in a new home this autumn will save you money while winter proofing your property.

Reserving a new home now with Linden Homes (part of Vistry Group) will allow you to get settled in before the colder weather kicks in and make the most of those darker working from home days and shorter nights as the clocks go back.

A new home at this time of year will also certainly result in savings when it comes to utility bills; thanks to economic boilers, insulation and double-glazing.

However, a new property built to current energy saving standards and regulations could reduce the costs compared to an older counterpart by around half.

Linden Homes is currently building at locations in North, South, West and East Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire with styles to suit all tastes and budgets.

Incentives including Help to Buy*, Smooth Move‡ and the Home Exchange† package will also help to curb the cost of moving for first time buyers and those with an existing property to sell.

Sales director Steve Woomble said said: “We’ve got some fabulous homes across the region which are ready to move into from now and in the run up to Christmas – a number of which are also eligible for our Stamp Duty paid incentive.

“The huge benefit is that customers could move in as little as four weeks – which means they can be settled in before the arrival of winter and start saving on their bills with immediate effect.”

Some eco-advantages and savings tips:

  • Most new homes have thermostat-controlled heating - turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £55 a year, says the Energy Saving Trust.
  • Linden Homes will fully draught proof your home. Figures from the EST show a fully draught proof home could save around £25 a year. Don’t forget to keep doors closed in rooms you are using to keep the heat in.
  • Boilers account for around 55 per cent of what is spent on energy bills in a year. Your new home will have a shiny new super energy efficient one.
  • Turning off the lights will lead to a £11 a year saving but switching to LED bulbs will save £30 a year.
  • All the toilets in Linden Homes properties feature a dual flush to help conserve water usage.
  • New homes will be built with the recommended insulation throughout the home – so no need to check and upgrade.

And buyers can also play their part in reducing the impact on climate change, buying with Vistry Group (which includes the Linden and Bovis brands) in the knowledge that they are investing in an energy-efficient home that qualifies for a new green mortgage discount.

Vistry Group achieves high band energy ratings by ensuring in-built energy efficiency is there for the life of the home through a fabric-first approach.

This has led to all but one of their house types having an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A or B – meaning homeowners could be eligible for high street lenders’ green mortgages and possible cashback.

Vistry's fabric-first approach ensures the design of homes and careful material selection reduces the need for heating and therefore lowers bills. The properties make the most of natural sunlight using well-placed openings and shadings.

Green mortgages reward homeowners for buying an energy efficient home by offering a reduced rate on certain fixed rate mortgages.

A home's EPC rating will depend on the amount of energy it uses and the level of carbon dioxide emissions. The house is placed on a scale ranging from A to G, with A being the most efficient and with the cheapest fuel bills. The rating is valid for 10 years.
