When Colleagues Become Neighbours!
22 Jun 2021

When you work in sales, it’s important to believe in what you’re selling.

Lucy Gazzard and Craig Davies started selling the new homes at Linden Homes’ Bitton Mill development in Bitton when it first launched three years ago. However, they loved the properties and the location so much that they bought new homes at the development and are now neighbours!

Lucy and her partner Lewis, both 25, were living a couple of minutes away in Warmley. Lucy explained: “I’d worked at the development for two years and I always loved showing visitors around – it’s so beautiful – but moving to Bitton Mill wasn’t part of our five year plan! We’d bought our first home, a new build, 18 months before and used Help to Buy*, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how lovely the site was.”

The couple moved to a four bedroom Pembroke house in Bitton just before Christmas. Lucy added: “We’re so delighted that we were able to afford a house like this at our age. With Smooth Move, Linden Homes helped us to sell our previous home and paid the estate agents fees, which really helped. Plus, we used Help to Buy again which was surprisingly straightforward and meant we could afford more space for our money.

“The house is lovely and open plan; there’s a nice garden with an existing stone wall at the back which gives it lots of character and it’s wonderful to hear the water from the nearby river Boyd – it all feels very idyllic. Bitton is so peaceful. There’s a real community and it’s surrounded by greenery, which is perfect for our dog, Murphy, and the many walks we do!

“I’m lucky to work with the site managers, Dave and Harry, as it’s great to know who’s built your home. Lewis is a carpenter and builder and he was able to see our home before second fix and from a build control point of view he was delighted to see how well it was being constructed. He’s quite particular about procedure and it gave him real confidence to see the bones of the house. However, as he’s in that line of work he doesn’t want to come home each evening and start sanding floorboards and changing skirting boards, so it’s brilliant that he can relax properly in a finished home. We’re so happy!”

While Lucy was busy thinking about her move, little did she know that her colleague, Craig was also thinking that Bitton would also make a good place to call home. Craig, 36, and his partner, Katie, 32, head baker for Calcot Manor, were living in a two bedroom house in Barrs Court. They had been looking for a new home and fell in love with the three bedroom Rowan house, with room for a home office and a bedroom for Craig’s 16 year old daughter, Taylor.

Craig commented: “I’d worked at Bitton Mill for almost three years and it wasn’t long before I was telling Katie what a lovely area Bitton was. I owned my own home before but this was a first for Katie so it was very exciting to be moving together and we were thrilled when we completed this January – especially as we were able to take advantage of the stamp duty holiday.

“We love our new home. It’s semi-rural so we get to enjoy lovely countryside views from our bedroom and take walks in the country, but it’s easy to get to both Bristol and Bath. Location was super important to us as we have family in both cities, and Bitton Mill just ticked all the boxes.

“I found it fascinating to see my home being built and I felt very privileged to work on the site as I could see the care and quality of the work that went into each home – not many people can watch their house being built each day.”

Craig added: “It’s amazing to know all the neighbours already, as I sold most of them their house! I love that Lucy is just a few homes away and another colleague also bought at the development so it’s certainly had the approval from staff!”

The homes at Bitton Mill are now all sold but for more details on new homes available in Harry Stoke, Bath, Falfield, Wickwar, Brockworth, Wroughton, Ashchurch, Westbury and Salisbury visit www.lindenhomes.co.uk
