Warnings Of Construction Site Dangers As Children Look Set To Stay Off School
23 Jun 2020

With the vast majority of schools remaining partially closed until September, one developer is warning of the dangers of construction sites – with children having more time on their hands.

As the house building industry begins to recover, Vistry Yorkshire (formerly Linden Homes Yorkshire) is among the many new homes businesses where building work has resumed or is being stepped up as lock down eases.

And for youngsters who may be bored due to even more time away from the classroom, the developer has issued a warning to adventure-seeking children – and their parents – about the dangers of building sites.

Construction work at its developments across the region is set to continue as normally as possible during the summer months – with building sites often seen by some as exciting places to play.

Every summer, in line with HSE advice, Linden Homes urges parents to warn their children of the potential dangers of playing on or near building sites.

Vistry Homes Regional Build Director Simon Cruise said: "Understandably some children are drawn to construction sites as exciting places to play, but they are not playgrounds and playing on them can have potentially serious consequences.

“Lockdown and the fact that many schools will not be fully operational until at least September presents an ideal opportunity for a timely reminder to children and parents about the dangers of construction. We would appeal to parents to check that their youngsters are in a safe environment when playing.”

Linden Homes does have strict and visible guidelines in place at each construction site, and there is also safety advice on the company website https://www.lindenhomes.co.uk/customer-service/visiting-us

Simon added: “While our developments have clear signage and are secured in non-operating hours, much of the machinery and materials we use remain on site – which could have very serious consequences if in the wrong hands.

“Anyone found on site without prior agreement will be escorted out of the area. We cannot take a relaxed view of safety. It is the law.”
