Victorian Elegance, Ingenious Design And Breathtaking Style

In 1895 the doors of the new St Michael’s Convent building in Waterlooville were opened for the first time. Designed by Leonard Stokes, the convent was home to the Order of Our Lady of Charity for over a century.

Now the doors have opened again: In 2015 this elegant, late Victorian building begins its new life and Linden Homes’ refurbishment of this old convent is now available to view.

The beautiful show home, in what is now Claydon House, reveals an apartment that strikingly blends old and new.

The finish is 2015 (with fully fitted bathrooms and a kitchen complete with integrated and guaranteed appliances). The windows and ceilings, however, are pure 1895. The stained glass and lofty rooms give each of the 17 Claydon House apartments a real sense of style, history and character.

The show home is a remarkable, two bedroom ground floor apartment with high, vaulted ceilings and huge stained glass windows. It has been carefully dressed and finished in a very contemporary style, which contrasts dramatically with the Victorian architecture and details of the original structure.

Tina Chalk is the marketing manager at Linden Homes Southern:

“Refurbishment projects of this calibre don’t come up very often. They are a challenge, there’s no doubt about that. It’s harder to create new homes within an existing building than it is to start from scratch, but it is worth it.

“The architects have very carefully incorporated the beautiful features of the original convent building into the layout of the apartments, while the interior designers have picked out those features and highlighted them to extraordinary effect, using an original colour palette and ingenious styling. We are really very proud of these homes. It’s been worth the extra effort”.

There are currently 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments available at St Michaels’ Claydon House.
