Stunning Setting Tipped The Balance For Gresham Mill Couple
04 Sep 2012

Visitors arriving at Gresham Mill on the edge of Woking are immediately struck by the homes’ unique surroundings of green and pleasant parkland, the bubbling water course and peaceful atmosphere.

For Shon and Michelle Hughes it was this charming setting that tipped the balance for them to make the offer off-plan for their three-bedroom townhouse after six months of property hunting.

Shon (54), who works for Hewlett Packard, said: “We had a good look around the area and we thought Gresham Mill was very unusual with such a nice setting.

“It’s very secluded in terms of the development, and well planned and laid out. We liked the whole idea of it being by the weir and the character of the refurbished building.”

The site is home to a former printworks whose handsome façade has been retained to create a stunning mix of 70 apartments, plus 18 townhouses, which never fails to impress visitors – including local MP Jonathan Lord who hailed it as “magnificent”.

And for buyers who don’t take up any of Linden Homes’ other incentives, further temptation is there to make a reservation on selected properties at Gresham Mill during August when £10,000 of home decoration vouchers are on offer through the Enhance service.

It delivers a face-to-face consultation in a studio with style advisors to support and advise people deciding on their preferred look which will greet them when they move in – including curtains, carpets, colour schemes, fixtures and fittings.

Gresham Mill sits within 7.4 acres of beautiful parkland landscaped to resemble a nature reserve, lined by meadows and echoing to the tranquil water of the River Wey.

Shon and his wife, Michelle, have lived in the Surrey area for about 20 years, and when they decided it was time to move from their rented property in Walton-on-Thames they were delighted with what they found at Gresham Mill.

“I think having had a look around for six months before, the property was also such good value,” Shon added. “I think it’s been a good experience – the staff have been very good, from the sales staff to the project manager of the site.”

Shon often works from home but also travels around the country and internationally as part of his job, so he appreciates Gresham Mill’s good transport links, proximity to London and fast access to the big airports.

The busy town centre of Woking is just three miles away, Guildford is under six miles and Junction 11 of the M25, the M3 and the A3 are all within a 15-minute drive.

Woking railway station is around 2.5 miles from the site, offering direct mainline services to London including Waterloo, for example, in just 28 minutes at peak times. It is also approximately mid-way between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Each new home offers contemporary layouts, generous living spaces and elegant proportions. Fully glazed doors open onto balconies and terraces while every apartment comes with dedicated parking.

Gresham Mill is on the former site of the Unwin Brothers Ltd family-run printing company which was established in 1896 and thrived at what was then St Martha’s printworks, only leaving in 2007 due to a merger. Its new name harks back to the first record of river-powered flour-making there in the Domesday survey.

For current owners, a move to Gresham Mill can be made even simpler through Linden Homes’ Part Exchange scheme. Eligible buyers choose from a selected range, and within seven days a valuation on their property will be made by three local estate agents and a cash offer made, as long as your current property is not more than 70 per cent of the value of what you want to buy.

The only thing left to do then is set a move-in date and get packing. In the second half of last year 321 Linden Homes buyers used Part Exchange around the country.
