The first homeowner at Linden Homes’ Mill Brook Green development in Axminster hasn’t moved in. And there’s a good reason for it, he’s bought the property as part of his pension and is expecting his tenants to move in any day now.
Paul Talbot, 66, was a civil engineer but semi-retired 15 years ago and is now self-employed as a landscape gardener and builder. He lives with his wife, Krisztina, 44, nearby in Kilmington and they made the decision to invest in a property locally to boost his monthly income.
He chose the three bedroom Emmett home at Mill Brook Green and completed on the sale at the end of August. Speaking about the move, Paul commented: “I was looking for a rental property, as part of my pension, that would be good for a local family. However, it needed to be low maintenance. It’s important to me that my tenants have a good quality home and I didn’t want them to have to make lots of calls about a boiler that needs replacing or a shower that keeps leaking.
“I’ve renovated and bought new before and buying new definitely wins! The 10 year guarantee you receive with a new home is great and knowing that the appliances are all new is fantastic, the peace of mind is invaluable.
“I like that the property has two bathrooms and the size and layout of the home in general was just what I was looking for. Initially, when I was house-hunting and speaking to estate agents, they recommended Linden Homes’ standard of finish and when I visited site I was equally impressed with the build quality and the specification, especially the detail on the internal doors. I did want to buy the show home, but Linden Homes weren’t selling it!

In fact, it was the location of the development that first attracted Paul as his parents were born nearby in Kilmington and while they moved to Manchester, his holidays were always spent in Devon. It was so appealing that he made the move south and has lived in Kilmington with Krisztina for the past 16 years.
Paul has three grown-up children who live in Axminster, Exeter and Bristol. He added: “There’s something about Devon that just grabs you, it’s very hard to stay away and I don’t think there’s a better place to call home. It has everything: stunning beaches, beautiful countryside and dramatic moors – we love it here.”
Paul, who loves tinkering with old cars and is a self-taught mechanic, said: “I’ve had a fantastic experience and the whole team has been brilliant, especially the sales consultants Yasmine and Sherrie, who have helped me throughout the whole process. Nothing has been too much trouble; I’ve been given extra paint, should we knock anything during the move and there’s always someone there to help. Krisztina and I are delighted with our new home and it’s been a great investment for our future.”
