Roses Ride Raises Readies For Charity
17 Jan 2014

A bike ride by four work colleagues has raised over £2,000 in support of charitable funds at Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Stevie Forster, Simon Maddison, Simon Grylls and Ashley Foster – who work for Galliford Try Partnerships North - tackled the ‘Way of the Roses’ ride, a 170 mile trek from the Lancashire coast at Morecambe to the Yorkshire coast at Bridlington.

The ride was inspired by the care that Stevie’s auntie and uncle received after both being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. They are now in remission and Stevie wanted to find a way to thank the hospital for the great support they received.

He said: “When I told everyone at work what I wanted to do there were instant promises of donations and Ashley and the two Simons all said they’d like to ride with me and help with the fundraising.

“It was a tough ride, but we had a fantastic time over the two days and most importantly, raised awareness and money for an excellent cause.”

Mr. D A Browell, FRCS Consultant Surgeon/Divisional Director for Surgical Services at the QE Hospital and one of the founders of the Mr Browell’s Cancer Research Fund said:  “We are incredibly grateful to the riders from Galliford Try for all their fund raising efforts. They can be assured that with the help of the hospital, the money donated can go towards supporting breast cancer research and to helping train the cancer immuno biologists of the future.”
