Councillors have given the green light to plans to build 35 new homes on the site of a former horticultural nurseries in Fair Oak, subject to a planning agreement being finalised.
A full planning application by Linden Homes, which is part of Vistry Group, to deliver the new homes on the site of the former Treetops Nurseries in Allington Lane, was approved by Eastleigh Borough Council’s local area committee at a meeting last month.
The new development spans just over three acres and will include 23 two, three and four-bedroom homes for private sale and 12 affordable properties available for local people through rent or shared ownership.
It is expected that the planning agreement will include financial contributions towards transport, community infrastructure, off-site public open space, healthcare and education.
Amy Savage, Land Director at Vistry Southern, said: “We are taking a disused former nurseries site and transforming it into a collection of much-needed homes in the village. The land has been identified as potentially suitable for new housing by the council and we have worked closely with officers to deliver a scheme which meets the needs of the local community.
“These homes will be part of a development that will be sustainable and located in a lovely village setting on the edge of Fair Oak, within walking distance of the village’s many amenities.
“The development has been designed to be sympathetic to and reflect the rural nature of its surroundings. Existing mature trees and perimeter hedgerows will be retained wherever possible and more trees will be planted. There will be a footpath flowing through the site and public open space will act as a focal point where residents can enjoy the outdoors and meet neighbours and friends in a relaxed natural environment.
“We aim to start construction work in September and hope to welcome the first residents into their new homes in the summer of 2023.”
This new development will form a third phase to Linden Homes’ Limewood Grange development where construction on the first two phases of 107 homes is now complete.
