Nigel Palmer, Managing Director For Linden Homes South West Commented:

“It is really encouraging to see the Government’s continued commitment to supporting people who aspire to become homeowners. We recently conducted a study* of 2,000 first-time buyers whom when asked about the biggest barriers to buying a property, the 64% majority stated that they do not have enough money for the necessary deposit to buy a property, so this new incentive to save will help those people in that position.

“The Help to Buy: ISA is another initiative that will assist first-time buyers as they strive to save for their deposit for a home. As it currently stands, a third of our sales across the Linden Homes group are made using the existing Help to Buy equity loan scheme and we see from experience that the deposit is often the biggest stumbling block for those who are buying their first home. Financial support for first-time buyers works really effectively up and down the country so this additional saving impetus will really give the next generation something to aim for.

“Of course, our challenge as housebuilders will be in delivering these homes: availability of land, planning delays and skills shortages are just some of the issues we tackle every day. But we do see real cross party political focus being brought to this sector, which gives us confidence for the long-term future of housebuilding.”
