Millbrook Park - Creating New Homes And New Tradesmen
14 Jul 2015

Linden Homes’ Millbrook Park development isn’t just a new community in the making – if all goes well, it will also be the making of four local apprentices – all of whom live in the London Borough of Barnet – who are currently working on site learning, first hand, trades for life.

Ricky Plum is 38 and is learning to be a bricklayer; Sepehr Rahini is 19: He’s training to be a plumber. 25 year old Kostas Zoumis is a carpenter’s apprentice and 19 year old Tevin Callender is training to be an electrician.

Ricky and Sepehr started working on site at the end of last year. They were joined by Kostas in January and by Tevin in April.

The four apprentices will be trained on site at Millbrook Park for a year. All four joined the scheme via a company called Denbre Ltd, which runs The Joe Brennan Training Construction Programme. The scheme finds and places the apprentices on site and ensures, to start with, that they have the correct protective clothing and tools to work on site in their chosen trade. It pays for their travel to and from work and carries out regular reviews to make sure the training is all running smoothly. It also ensures they receive a decent training wage at or above the minimum wage - not just the minimum apprentice wage, which can be significantly lower. College courses are also funded as and when necessary.

Denise Brennan is from Denbre:

“We help to place and support the apprentices when they go to work and train on site. The four at Millbrook Park will be there for a year, working with Linden Homes and their sub-contractors. While they are there, they are regularly assessed and as part of their NVQ they keep a site diary and take photos of their work as they go. The onsite training being provided by Linden Homes at Millbrook Park offers excellent, practical experience and works in tandem with the college courses and NVQ training.

“We are really grateful to Linden Homes for providing this experience for the apprentices. Their constant support for our programme means our apprentices can qualify in their respective trades and, more importantly, go on to get jobs.”

Linden Homes is currently creating a collection of new homes at Millbrook Park in Mill Hill consisting of 2 bed apartments and 3 and 4 bed houses. For more information on homes available, please call 0844 488 3192. You can also find more details on the Linden Homes’ website.
