Linden Homes West Yorkshire Drives Talent In Technical
12 Mar 2018

Linden Homes’ technical team has been given a welcome boost as Erica Bell joins the West Yorkshire business unit as Technical Director.

Erica brings 18 years’ experience in the technical field to the role, primarily in the housebuilding sector. Most recently, Erica was Head of Department for Technical at a private larger housebuilder but was enticed to Linden Homes as she was keen to return to the public limited company environment: “I was eager to join Linden Homes which is widely recognised in the industry for outstanding quality. I have had great support since I joined in terms of my personal development, the sky is very much my limit!

Erica is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of various developments across West Yorkshire encompassing Leeds, Harrogate, Bradford, Wakefield & Kirklees. Her passion for planning and a fast-paced working environment are key drivers for Erica as she embraces her responsibilities at the company: “I have always had an interest in housebuilding and planning. I love the challenges that planning brings and the pressure of the role. It’s extremely testing at times, but so rewarding when everything comes together, particularly when you can share that success with your team.”

Since joining the West Yorkshire region for Linden Homes, Erica has built a team comprising of engineers, technical coordinators and a new role for the company; a technical trainee: “I have some great people on board, making our technical provision particularly robust. I enjoy mentoring people and have a passion for driving talent in the business. We know that industry wide, there is a shortage in technical personnel and so as a Group, we are creating a new role in the form of a technical trainee. I’m delighted that we are one of the first Business Units to fulfil this position; this is one small step to encouraging tomorrow’s talent into the housebuilding industry.”

Committed to Women in Property, Erica has also stood as a judge on a regional round of the student awards, of which Linden Homes is a key sponsor. Erica explained: “It was really interesting to speak with the girls from the Universities. There was limited knowledge of my role and what it entails, however once it had been explained, you could see they were really enthusiastic about this becoming a potential career option.”

Looking to the future, Erica is keen to promote housebuilding to females and males alike and drive more talent into the technical department. Erica said, “The future looks really bright and I want to do what I can to motivate people to consider technical for their career path. As a region, we are focused on a number of joint ventures in North Yorkshire; building more relationships across the local market whilst finding ways to deliver much needed housing for the area is key.”

Scott Stothard, Managing Director at Linden Homes West Yorkshire commented: “Erica is a very welcome addition to the team. Her dynamic approach is motivating those around her Erica is already driving our bids forward on new land opportunities and building relationships with various partners including local authorities, architects and engineers. We have a strong presence in the region and I am delighted that Erica will help us to continue our successful growth.
