Linden Homes To Submit Plans For 258 New Homes In Ely

Linden Homes has exchanged contracts for a 16-acre site in Ely on which its plans to build 258 new homes.

The housebuilder, part of Vistry Group, is now preparing to submit a reserved matters planning application to East Cambridgeshire District Council.

If approved, the development will deliver 212 houses for private sale and 46 affordable homes as part of the wider 1,200-home Orchards Green scheme off the A10, to the north of the city centre.

Under the proposals, Linden Homes will also construct a new cricket pitch and large areas of green open space for the public on land to the south-west of the site.

A mix of one to four-bedroom affordable homes will be built by the developer, alongside a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties for private sale.

Verity MacMahon, land director for Vistry East Midlands, said: “If our plans for this development in Ely are approved, it will enable us to move forward with work to provide much-needed new homes for this part of East Cambridgeshire.

“Our proposals include a wide range of properties to suit buyers across the marketing, including first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers, as well as affordable housing to enable local people to find a suitable home close to their friends and family.”

The development will form a key part of the wider Orchards Green scheme, which is bringing around 1,200 new homes to Ely, along with green open spaces, a care home, a new community centre, a primary school, and retail units.

Verity said: “We believe our proposed development will be hugely beneficial for Ely. It will deliver high-quality homes in an attractive and accessible location close to the city centre, within a new neighbourhood offering a multitude of community facilities.

“We will be submitting a reserved matters planning application to the local authority in the coming weeks, and subject to approval, we aim to start construction work on later in 2021. We hope to welcome the first residents into their homes next year.”
